Yes, cars can be sexy!  Contrary to my old opinion that a vehicle is just a means of transportation, I now appreciate a truly beautiful automobile similar to the way I appreciate a piece of art.  Just think of the 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo as a lovely sculpture that just so happens to do 0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds.  That's my kind of culture!  Read about the changes and check out the photo gallery on Car and Driver, here's a little bit:

More than one year after the regular Porsche 911 migrated to Phase II of the 997 architecture, the Turbo follows. The most important change: A new twin-turbocharged, direct-injection flat-six engine with higher compression (9.8:1, from 9.0:1), a displacement of 3.8 liters (up from 3.6) and 20 more horsepower—the new 911 Turbo makes 500 hp at 6000 rpm, versus the previous models 480 hp. Maximum torque for the new car is 479 lb-ft at 1950 rpm (516 lb-ft at 2100 rpm with the optional Sport Chrono package), while its predecessor delivered 460 lb-ft (505 lb-ft with Sport Chrono).
Porsche says the revisions improve the Turbos already stellar performance, with the company claiming the run to 60 mph now takes 3.2 seconds; a 0–60 sprint of 3.4 seconds is the best we've recorded for the previous model. Top speed rises 1 mph to an ungoverned 194. However, a more noticeable improvement is the Turbos efficiency. Carbon-dioxide emissions are said to be 18 percent less than before, and while U.S. EPA ratings are not yet available, combined fuel economy in the European cycle has increased from the equivalent of 18 mpg to 20 mpg for 2010.

You can opt for the Yachting Mahogany interior trim, for example. Inspired by, uh, yachts, the package splices wood inlays along the door panels, dashboard, three-spoke steering wheel, center console, and even the grab handles. Porsche could also equip your Panamera with real leather on the steering column, heating vents, sun visor, or rear-view mirror housing.  Buyers can also specify that any interior piece, including the ignition key, be painted in the car’s body color, and Porsche advises that Porsche logos stitched into seat headrests are an absolute must. The gear selector for the PDK transmission can be optioned in aluminum, the instrument cluster is offered in three colors, and the seatbelts can be had in Silver Grey or Indian Red. The rear diffuser, spoiler, and air intakes can also be painted in the car’s body color.  There is even a cooling compartment available between the back seats which chills beverages—soft drinks only while driving, please—and comes with two glasses bearing the Porsche logo. Lucky children can take advantage of a rear-seat DVD player. And though it may seem like blasphemy to Porschefiles, the Panamera will also have available roof and bike racks, as well as child seats and suitcases bearing the automakers logo.

As I have mentioned before, I do not usually find vehicles emotionally moving the way that some of my co-workers do (Alex). But every once in a while, while browsing the automotive stories and blogs, I have an Aha! moment, and it clicks.  I completely understand the obsession, emotion, and awe I have heard about so many times.  Well, it happened today!  Autoblogs coverage of the Meadow Brook Concours 2009, complete with supercar photo gallery sparked my car desire.  Check it out and see what I mean:

After about three hours at Meadow Brook, team Autoblog was ready to head out and get writing. The only thing that had us scratching our heads was the lack of modern supercars out on the lawn. On our way out the door, though, one of the gentlemen working the show asked us if we'd seen the exotics, which were hidden at the side of Meadow Brook Hall. Thank you sir.

Once we entered the hidden patio at Meadow Brook, we were greeted with dozens of supercars from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti and Porsche, along with a smattering of ultra-rare rides, including the Reventon, Veyron, 959 and Spyker C8 Laviolette. Ferrari was well-represented with a 612 Scaglietti, California, a pair of F430s and a 599 and we were also happy to see a V-10 Audi R8, a couple Astons and, perhaps our favorite of all, the absolutely stunning Alfa Romeo 8C.

Porsche Panamera Laps Nurburgring in 7:56; Faster Than CTS-V

Panamera haters sit down.. this just in!! The Porsche Panamera takes the crown from the CTS-V with a Nurburgring ring lap time of 7:56.  Here's what the folks at Motor Trend had to say about it-

Still dont think its a real Porsche? Try this: The Panamera is the fastest sedan to lap the Nürburgring.  In the hands of Walter Röhrl, a Panamera Turbo took the crown with a 7:56 lap time, German auto magazine Sportauto reports. Sorry, CTS-V. Your record is history. 

The Turbo was a standard car outfitted with ceramic composite brakes and the Sport Chrono Package. The latter offers an overboost function that raises torque from 516 lb-ft to a max 567 lb-ft of torque from 3000 rpm to 4000 rpm.  Per Sportautos testing database, the Panamera blows the doors off the M5s 8:13 lap time, and is rubbing shoulders with supercar giants. The Ferrari F430 is 1 second faster than the 4000-plus lb sedan, while the Mercedes SLR McLaren and Ford GT are in sight at 7:52.
